IDLE · waiting for input
Image compression re-encodes pixels with a lower quality target so the same picture travels in fewer bytes. The useful question is not "what is the smallest file" but "at which quality does this image still look correct on the destination screen". A hero image for a landing page, a product thumbnail and a print master all deserve different answers.
Canvas re-encoding runs in the tab, so a quality slider of 70–82% usually removes 40–70% of the bytes from a photographic JPEG. Screenshots with text should stay lossless or use WebP, because lossy artifacts around letters are immediately visible.

How it works
- 01
Drop the file into the compression workspace and confirm the reported input size.
- 02
Move the quality, bitrate or resolution control and compare the estimated output size.
- 03
Run the job; the progress meter reports encoding stages and the final byte count.
- 04
Download the result, compare it with the original at 100% zoom, and publish only the version that still looks correct.

Frequently asked questions
How much can an image be compressed?
Photographic JPEG and WebP files typically lose 40–70% of their bytes at 70–82% quality with no visible difference at normal viewing sizes. PNG screenshots compress poorly with lossy settings; convert them to WebP instead.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The IMAGE file is decoded in this browser tab and the IMAGE output is created in memory. Nothing is sent to AIMP6 storage, and closing the tab removes the working data.
Can I convert several IMAGE files at once?
The image workspace accepts multiple files up to the browser memory limit; audio and video jobs run one file at a time because FFmpeg.wasm holds the whole stream in memory. Batch cloud processing is a Pro workflow.
